Prayer Team Purpose

Our purpose is to be used by the Holy Spirit to direct the hearts and minds of people to God and to lift the requests and needs of people to God.

We intend to use intercessory prayer to encourage a fruitful and lasting relationship between the people of the church and God.

We intend to honor God by elevating the understanding and role of prayer in the lives of His people and His church.

We intend to help provide for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those we pray with by directing them to resources both within and outside of our church.

Requirements for the Prayer Team

It is required the you be a practicing, growing Christian who believes that Christ is the only way to salvation, and who is able to represent the Christian faith and Faith Community Church.

You must evaluate yourself and assess the calling and tools that God has equipped you with, and know to the best of your ability that this is where you should be.
See Romans 12:3-6a

You must submit yourself to God. You must be willing to submit to the authority that God has given to the leaders within our church. We must be able to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
See Hebrews 12:17 and Ephesians 5:21

Our desire is to honor God in unity. Our total dependence is on Him. We ask that you read and sign the prayer covenant and complete the basic instruction that all members of the prayer team have (or will have) completed.

Expectations

We will subject our personal wishes, no matter how good our intentions may be, to the will of God. We want to follow God's will even when His direction may conflict with our own desires. We must trust in Him and know that He understands our heart and our true need.
See Isaiah 55:8-9, James 4:14-16, Matthew 6:8b-10 NIV, 1 John 5:14-15

We need to believe that God will answer our prayers. God will answer the prayers of the faithful, in His time and in His way. We must be patient and faithful, willing to commit to whomever we pray for no matter how long it takes. We need to pray with faith and perseverance.
See Mark 11:24, Matthew 21:21-22, Luke 18:1-8

We need to maintain peace between the members of the prayer team and serve as an agent of reconciliation between all people of FCC and the larger body of Christ. In order to do this, there should be no anger or disputing. If we do or say something that hurts someone we should apologize as soon as we possibly can and do everything in our power to make things right again. We should not judge each other's work or try to compete with one another. We should speak the truth in love. Everything we do we should do with a sincere heart and with humility, and above all else, with love.
See Hebrews 12:14, 1 Timothy 2:8, James 4:11, Romans 12:9-10, Ephesians 4:2-3

We need to do everything with love and gentleness. Love is what sets us apart from the rest of the world, so whenever we do anything we should love the people around us. Our words and actions should be marked with gentleness and love.
See 1 Corinthians 16:14, Philippians 4:5-6, Colossians 3:12, 1 Peter 3:15-16

We need to show people we can be trusted. We should listen intently, and pray with and for people, without gossiping to others about what we hear. We must hold prayer requests in the strictest confidence. The only exceptions would be a situation that threatens imminent harm to someone. (For example: a child who is being abused, or someone who confesses to you that they are going to harm another person.) In that case, you should inform the church leadership and if appropriate, inform other authorities.
See Proverbs 11:13, Proverbs 16:28, Proverbs 20:19

We should not judge the people who come for prayer. We should do our utmost to make people comfortable with us so that we can pray with them in honesty and love. We never see the entire picture the way God does, and we hardly ever know the circumstances that brought a person to where they are. Judgment belongs to God, not us.
See Matthew 7:1-2, Luke 6:36-37, 1 Corinthians 4:5, James 4:12

We should seek to edify. The intention of this ministry is to lift up the needs of the body and stand together in agreement. It is important that those we're praying with can say "Amen" to the prayers offered on their behalf. Because of that, those who may be gifted in tongues are asked to exercise their gift in private prayer, but pray in a language others understand in corporate settings.
See 1 Corinthians 14:13-14
